“Luxury drinks and foods often make headlines, and recently, Ciragan Palace Kempinski Istanbul has introduced a new ultra-luxury beverage—a $680 Sahlep. This traditional Turkish hot drink, made from finely ground orchid tuber, is served in a snifter with Tahitian vanilla and real gold.
Here’s what goes into it:
- 5 oz. of traditional Turkish Sahlep
- 1 1/3 oz. of Cognac Louis XIII
- 0.65 oz. of chocolate liqueur (80% cocoa with dark vintage rum)
- A drizzle of artisanal Turkish honey
To prepare, warm and mix all ingredients except the cognac in a large snifter. Gently pour the cognac over the back of a bar spoon, add Tahitian vanilla, and garnish with gold leaves. Serve immediately.
While the $680 price might seem steep, this drink could be a delightful after-dinner indulgence.”
