“If you’re planning your first getaway after the pandemic, make it memorable with a stay at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. This is the brand’s first property in the Maldives, having opened on June 1, 2021. American travelers can visit with proof of a pre-arrival COVID test.

Located on the Fari Islands in the North Malé Atoll, the resort is a 45-minute speedboat ride or a 10-minute seaplane flight from Malé International Airport.

The resort features a spherical design inspired by the lagoon and ocean breezes, blending modern architecture with the natural beauty of the Maldives. Both the interior and exterior designs aim to minimize environmental impact and maximize horizon views. The construction used pre-fabricated methods to avoid disrupting the island’s ecosystem, producing no waste or pollution. The resort also utilizes natural breezes for cooling and advanced glazing to reduce air-conditioning needs. It focuses on sustainability with solar panels, eco-friendly materials, and natural finishes to lower its carbon footprint.

All 100 rooms are private villas, each with a personal butler known as an Aris Meeha. The smallest villas start at over 1,600 square feet and come with private pools. You can choose a villa with views of the ocean, the lagoon, or situated directly on the sandy beach.

The resort has partnered with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society to launch the Ambassadors of the Environment program. This initiative reflects the resort’s commitment to environmental and community efforts. Guests can join in various activities and local cultural programs.

Among the seven dining options at the resort is Summer Pavilion, a floating restaurant overlooking the lagoon. This intimate 40-seat venue specializes in Cantonese cuisine, with a design inspired by lanterns. Summer Pavilion, in collaboration with Singapore’s Michelin-starred Summer Pavilion, offers dishes like roasted duck, served with fine Chinese teas and a selection from an extensive wine list.”
